Nusrat is a convert to Islam from Roman Catholicism and is of East African (Ugandan) and Arab (Omani) descent, having had a Catholic education from the years 1995-2010. Her cited influences of Islamic thought include the likes of many renown writers, scholars and speakers such as: Imam Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ghazālī, Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, Dr Jeffrey Lang, Harun Yahya, Professor Tariq Ramadan, Sheikh Hamza Yusuf Hanson, Ustadh Yahya Rhodus.
Upon her conversion at a young age, she spent time seeking knowledge on Islam and the Philosophy & Ethics of religion – using that knowledge combined with her life experiences to actively engage Muslims and Non-Muslims alike in dialogue. She is adheres to Sufism. Her methods of engagement include debate, written articles, seminal discussions/lectures (both televised and non-televised) and is characterised for her quirky and eccentric personality.
